i remember always having the “c’mon son” face on during my brief time in nursing school. i was the only black woman in the room and when the instructor skimmed over the cultural diversity part, i raised my hand and stated, “ignoring the differences and pretending other cultures don’t exist is terrible. for example, i am the elephant in the room right now. all of you either talk to me like you don’t see a marked difference in our appearance or make me feel like the ‘exotic’ woman who wraps her head and talks about social justice. how are you going to treat your patients when you can’t even acknowledge your classmate?”

they all looked mad shook and they all stayed silent. i was done after that. though, mother nature took care of my exit. i learned a lot about tolerance in that setting though. it was good preparation for the next leg of my midwifery journey…

i had such an amazing day off. i went out to eat with my girl melody, whos amazing and such a motivating person. shes one of the reasons i been taking care of me. she helps me however she is able and roots for and looks for solutions…its just indescribable. i met this girl like 7 months ago and shes been so good to me.

after we ate we went to the waterfront with her boyfriend and his friend and we walked for like 2hrs which felt GREAT cause i never walk anywhere here and i used to love walking in nyc. then we went home watched a movie and she took me home.

i feel so replenished and happy and i have direction and know what my next step is. im calling mcc tomorrow to see if they received my transcripts, i did my financial aid, i got a debit card to save money and i got 2 jobs.

          oooh letsss do ittt!

So Assata Shakur is a “terrorist,” Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months in prison for tax evasion even though she did pay them, Kiera Wilmot a 16 year old girl is charged with a felony and expelled from school for a failed science experiment that hurt no one, and Blue Ivy Carter (a fucking infant) is having all types of misogyny thrown her way because of the way her parents dressed her. The one thing all of these people have in common? They’re all Black women/girls.

Please White Feminists, tell me again how white women and Black women face the same type of oppression. Tell me again how addressing racism and sexism at the same time is “divisive. ” I’d love to hear your thoughts about racism “not being a feminist issue.”

            Please, entertain me.

Don’t forget the reaction to Quvenzhane being called a cunt…we were supposed to find it funny. Or something.

Speaking of different body shapes. These are all basically peak human bodies.

How come 99% of them don’t conform to what the entertainment industry tells us is the perfect body?

This is a FABULOUS set of body refs. So glad this came back across my dash so I could reblog it here :D

i didnt find the feminist wire a place for me, a latinegra “academic,” when i realized all their talk excluded me, not bc im a latinegra (have they ever included us?), but b/c there was never a space or opp to talk about woc who were and are pushed out of the academy by other woc. (c)

let the record show this exclusion is perhaps deliberate. there’s no space for us for a reason.

Latin@s we got to talk about this shit right here.

Latin@ folks silent on how allllll the latin@s who lived in that neighborhood in OH w/the castros who are charged with rape and kidnap of amanda berry, gina dejesus, michelle knight, and infant child heard screams and yells but never thought it was a problem.

years living near that ish. it took a Black man, charles ramsey, new to the neighborhood to recognize when shit was fucked up. Latin@s we got to talk about this shit right here. why are the screams or yells of girls and women ignored? and yes i’m looking specifically at this person’s testimony as a space to discuss this.
